Resolutions

The GPSG Assembly discusses and votes on resolutions that seek to fairly represent the greater graduate student opinion on the IUB campus. Resolutions are defined as "an official declaration approved by an Assembly vote, the core of which is a call for action directed toward GPSG, Indiana University, or any subdivision, employee, or director thereof."

Calling on IU to denounce revocation of student visas and the detention of students engaging in lawful protest

The Graduate and Professional Student Government Assembly unequivocally denounces the revocation of student visas, the criminalization of lawful political protest, and the unlawful detention of students engaging in constitutionally protected expression. GPSG calls upon university leadership to issue a statement immediately in any case where students’ civil liberties are under threat due to political expression. The contents of such a statement will only be acceptable to the GPSG Assembly if it meets the criteria set forth within the resolution.

Resolution to reopen the student passport office at Indiana University

The Graduate and Professional Student Government Assembly calls for the reopening of the Student Passport Office be formally supported and prioritized. The GPSG Assembly further urges the IU Global, Office of International and Global Engagement, the Registrar, and the Division of Student Affairs to collaborate in assessing the feasibility of reopening and sustaining the Office, with attention to staffing, hours of operation, and student demand.

Resolution on Communication Regarding Federal Funding

In the wake of recent changes to federal funding, GPSG representatives have requested that Indiana University follow the examples set by other BIG 10 universities in providing graduate students with 1) recources which track changes that may affect funding, 2) clear communication regarding how these changes will directly impact IU, 3) directon on how to obtain emergency funding, 4) a committment to protecting IU researchers against bearing the full weight of these changes, and 5) a reporting system which will enable researchers with the ability to inform the administration concerning the effect of these changes.
